DLC’s Horticultural Lighting Program works in partnership with utilities, energy rebate/incentive programs, and the lighting industry. Focusing on widespread adoption of energy-saving LED technology in the horticultural lighting sector. Underwriters Laboratories Inc. is an independent, nonprofit organization that writes testing standards and tests products for safety and certifies them. UL has developed more than 800 standards for safety, and millions of products and their components are tested to UL’s safety standards.

Pioneers of Bright White LED Grow Lighting
In 2011, the NextLight 525w was invented and later brought to market. This full spectrum bright white LED was different from the LED competition at the time. Manufacturers of “perfect purple, proprietary spectrums” touted targeting certain colors to power the photosynthetic response curve. Many growers bought into the idea and found the promise of LEDs didn’t always match the expectations.
NextLight’s mission was different. Target and outperform the HPS 1000 spectrum, which had been the choice of the commercial and hobby grower for 30+ years. NextLight uses modern white LEDs which provide the same sun-like qualities plants love without the negatives of high energy requirements and high heat.
Flash forward to today, full spectrum LED is now the gold standard in the grow lighting industry.
